Being connected . Love me, love me not . . .

                                                                         Brazil

If I say to you:

“You are connected”
What comes to your mind ?
What comes to your mind with no thinking ?
And what  comes to your mind after giving it some thoughts ?

In its positif aspects ?
And in its less positive aspects?
In its negative aspects ?

I am not talking about what you read about it or what your life partner, friends have to say about it. But what you do think and feel about it
What does those internet connections bring into your life ?
Daily, short, medium, long term ?
The +s ? the –s ?

How about taking some time to think about this ?
And I am going to be as annoying as those people who are carrying out an audit: what time re you spending on a screen ?
Personal and professionally wise ?

I can tell you that this is very interesting to objectively assess this time.
You can write this down, say for one day.

Then you can begin to perceive your virtual reality.
I know … virtual reality … what’s that ?!?

While navigating on the net; is there anything else you feel you don’t have time to do at the end of your day ?
If the answer is yes, it may be surprising to re assess this affirmation of not having time for X or Y.

I do believe that the negative aspects of it begin to interfere when their threshold is too high.
What is too high then ?
A threshold becomes too high when its negative consequences create blocages, avoidances, difficulties, discomforts … in your life.

We, as humans, have common needs – amount / quality of sleep, of social connections, of rest . ..
their threshold can vary for each individual.: some of us can need up to 9 hours of sleep per night when others can do with only 6.
Though, under 6 hrs per night, if regular, we all disfunction.

Possible impacts of high threshold

-          Preventing from other wanted or necessary activities
-          Augmenting social isolation
-          Decreasing sometimes not having rest time which may lead to aggressivity, impatience.
-          Operating mainly at a rhythm which is not our body’s rhythm. Power of concentration is modified, pace of thoughts is higher.

Addiction ? FYI, there are centers where people can go to be treated and cured from video games addiction.

How can you know if you are addicted to being connected ?
Ask yourself this question: can I function normally without it ?
Does my behaviour change ? even better; go real: Withdraw it from your life and see what happens in you.
Now, you know.

I suggest you try to stay some time ( you to define it) with no connection.
Check what is happening for you / in you. Nice ? Horrible ? Whare is your conclusion ?

I am not talking here about all the incredible positive aspects of being connected.
They are numerous. Again, you to know what they are for you.

PS: I am personally  addicted and find cutting from them sometimes give me time and space for so much more difference !

Some people have told me:
“I simple cannot stop”
And
“ Gosh, what a difference it made withdrawing them from my life for a week !”

your body, mind & soul

London poppies exhibition being taken off

A thought I feel like sharing with you this morning.

How do you wake up your body, mind and soul in the morning ?

Oh yeah, I know. Coffee / Tea for most of us Sapiens Sapiens, right ?
Coffee / Tea  are brilliant for the mind ! A good kick in !

Your body and your soul need to wake up in the best condition too !

Recipe ? None, sorry ! As usual !
Joking on this one !

I believe there is a good one.

Should take you what, 10 to 20 mn ? Or less if you are just starting.

Take it easy.

I am talking about a few stretching / yoga mouvements.

And a meditation.

This is a winning recipe.
I can assure you.

And I will never repeat that enough.
You do not need to be a yogi to meditate.

You just need to offer yourself a natural pace of being for a short yet important time.

A the beginning, just follow your breath and feel it going through your body, in and out.

Wishing you a fabgical day !

A quote from Jung

Thank you Mr Jung !

"Is is about letting come.
The East taught me what it expresses with " Wu Wei ", which means the non acting action,
the let it happen -which is not doing nothing -
Others also have understood that.Like when Mr. Eckhardt talks about "to let oneself".
The dark place we hit then is not empty
We meet there the "caregiver mother", the "pictures" and the " seed ".
When the surfa
ce is cleared, everything can come from the depths.
(...)
But if men do not know how to go further, the only advice that makes sense is to

wait what the unconscious has to say about the situation.

If there is a way, it is only the way we open ourselves  (...).
Therefore there is no general directions that say "how we should do."

Interview with Thich Nhat Hanh – an emblematic figure of Buddhism

London Eye

In this interview, Thich Nhat Hanh speaks about

Practice of Buddhism ;
Mindfulness / focus on the here and now ;
Access to happiness ;
Suffering and therefore its healing

Accessible via the link, according to his belief:

The link maintained with the child we were and still lives in us.

Also the link maintained by us with our ancestors;
I would rather say, a link with the significant adults from our previous stories, with no time limit.
We do carry old stories .

And reconcile our being from our current time,
with our being from our previous times: child, teenager, young adult, adult . . .

No thinking
No trying to understand
No analyzing
No judging

just

RECOGNISE  ACCEPT  LOVE  therefore  CURE

The exercises are accessible to everyone.
The exercises should be practiced daily .

I personally was particularly struck by the notion of space.

The indispensable space for being in happiness

To be in a state of love, for self and others

Space for oneself and space for those we love.

The concept of continuous relationship with the child we were;
knowing he is still present in us,
listening to him is essential to respect oneself and be in touch with our truth.

This point is for me an essential truth , simply because I have experienced it in a moment of acute vulnerability : the death of my mother.

At this time, I found myself, regardless of my will, in a modified state of consciousness where me as a child was there with me as an adult.

One protecting and reassuring the other and allowing me to chose to continue my life path securely or chose not to.

The two of me being at the same time separated and in total communion.

This experience in me (mind and body ) has been
independent of any temporal notion
and bathed in a complete sensory world.

These types of states are to experiment and not to be described
as they are so different from our 'normal' experiences.

Isn’t the rhythm of his voice soothing by itself ?

Food for thought !

I am wishing you a wonderful week !

Making a choice

British flooding

Very often the people I work with via a coaching process express a will to deal with choice making. Whether this is explicit or implicit to them.

The tendency is often to ‘require’ from oneself that these choices are obvious and quick to make.
This is because being 'in-between '
In between two paths or  two choices is a worrying and uncertain situation that has to lead to mourn some aspect of what we will  not chose.
It is diving into the unknown therefore uncertainty.
In other words: giving up mastering the situation and accepting to feel some danger !

With the nagging question which is not always clearly expressed, ' but what if I'm wrong ...?'

Well yes, you can ' go wrong ' !  Most constructive and not necessarily the easiest way is to learn ( rethink all those good - bad arguments that you had put forward before ) to understand , to get rid of some (maybe already) obsolete personal values/beliefs ?
Restart the machine in another direction. And this may take time.

A feeling of great loneliness facing oneself ?
Who else but yourself can make the choice, in reality ?

Yourself.

And how about the side benefits of not making a choice?
You can call it otherwise, the concept is still the same .

If you stay in a situation of non- choice (' But that's impossible ! ' ' I cannot do it ' ' I do not see clearly ' ' I do not know ... ) there is a reason for it.
This ' blocked ' situation brings you protection.
It nourishes you , it justifies something of your current organization (work, family , environment ...)

 What is it ?
We approach there yet another step in the work of understanding oneself:

to go in search of the roots of the tree of choice that has some branches which grow further and firmly when others are shorter or twisted to maintain a balanced ecosystem.

Then do not forget your unconscious mind!
Our so dear and caring best friend !
It is our reservoir of memory, wisdom, and knowledge of our self.
It is all that we need to answer the questions we keep.

In ethno psychiatry, the unconscious mind is considered by various means.
Some shamans for examples consider it as being our divine part.
Whatever its name, it is considered as an extremely benevolent part of ourselves for ourselves.

We can access our unconscious mind in different ways.
I personally communicate with mine regularly. Simply asking him to be there for me. That's one way.

" The poets who stand immediately on the other side of the border are trying to make us understand that we have lost our true wealth and that things would be better if we would reach them again "

How to deal with our traumas ?

Beautiful and what looks like a threatening eye: all in one single creature

Here is a link to an article of the French newspaper Le Monde, written about the Italian conductor Claudio Abbado who just passed away.

http://www.lemonde.fr/disparitions/article/2014/01/20/claudio-abba
do-chef-d-orchestre-1923-2014_4351019_3382.html

As it is stated in the article, Mr Abbado who was suffering from a stomach cancer for several years andunderwent a surgery in 2000.

He used to say:

“I learned new things, this interruption has been an exceptional experience

that made me see and feel everything differently.”

When we are dangerously close to a highly traumatic event, when we are almost to the point of death,
we will never be totally the same again.

There is a before and there is an after.

Can we still always make a positive experience of a trauma ?

I do think so.

Is it easy and systematic ?

I do not think so.

What are the keys to achieve this?

We share a few :

Moving on to the following state of mind:

- We have the painful phases:

The denial
The anger
What I call the diving phase, which may take the form of depression, sadness, melancholy

- Then the phases following the mind-switch that makes us be connected with life, again:

The acceptance, letting go
The reconstruction,

These phases are more or less important depending on your unique life history

Some of these phases can be particularly long and painful, while others are barely felt.

If you are in a situation of despair;

Be sure that you 're not alone

A professional can help you. Nothing is ever definite.

Many approaches exist and one or more of them will match your needs

I am wishing you a wonderful week !

Ayurveda approach of health

According to the World Health Organisation definition given in 1946, Health is

“a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”

Let’s always remember it is more than only the absence of disease or infirmity.

I do believe that all cultures and eras have developed rich and useful and efficient ways to consider health.
And I do think it is important to consider them.

In India for example, the traditional approach is called Ayurveda.

Deepak Chopra:

“In Ayurveda, a level of total, deep relaxation is the most important precondition for curing any disorder.
 The underlying concept is that the body knows how to maintain balance unless thrown off by disease;
Therefore if one wants to restore the body’s own healing ability, everything should be done to bring it back into balance.
It is a very simple notion that has profound consequences.”

I am not a specialist of Ayurveda, nor a master of relaxation.

Though, for seven years now, I have been using and witnessing the ability of the association body-mind to relieve physical pain and mental blockages;

It has been incredibly efficient.
No need to pay a lot of money to someone; no magical wand either;

It is simply another way to consider our health that doesn't need to deny the benefits of modern medicine.

It is being opened to what our body-mind incredible association can bring us.

Have you ever tried ?

If you want to know more, feel free to ask me all the question, doubts, ideas you may have about this !

I am more than happy to share !

Origin of pain ?

I was talking with a friend who is a physiotherapist, yesterday.

She was telling me that she is treating a lady who suffers from joints' pain which origin is stress.

I personally have just done 10 mn of EFT for joint pain; it is one way, not the only one;

Can you recognise when your pain have your own malaise ?

What do you do with it then ?

I am wishing you a peaceful day !

Exercises to soothe your mind

Ilha Paqueta, Rio de Janeiro

I was reading an article the other day ; they were suggesting 3 exercises. Here they are:
Do know that an exercise is more efficient if you do it again and again …

Fill in the ‘worry-boat’

o      Get comfortable, close your eyes, relax and breathe deeply. Then, visualise yourself on a river bank. The place is bathed in a blue, maybe white light
o      Visualise the boat that sails toward you. Reliable and solid. It is sent to you to ease your mind. Obverse it in detail before you let it be near you. Its colour, its shape, its texture . . .
o      Think about what is concerning you most (little or big worries). They can appear to you as an object, a sensation, an image . . . Put them into the boat and feel your relief
o      Observe the boat, heavy with your worries, that is sailing away and feel your lightness . Follow the boat with your eyes until it disappears.
o      Come back here and now, slowly, moving your fingers, your toes, open your eyes
o      Breathe deeply

Make peace with your 5 fingers

o      Touch your thumb with your index and remember / recall a moment when you felt an important physical fatigue.
o      Touch your thumb with your middle finger and remember / recall a very loving moment (conversation, e mail, phone call . . . ) with a specific person (your life partner, a friend, your child . . . )
o      Touch your thumb with your ring finger and remember / recall the most loving gesture you received. Re live the scene like a gift.
o      Touch your thumb with your little finger and go with your thoughts in a dream place. Deeply experience its beauty.
o      Breathe deeply

Write down all your extras

o      You need a note book and to program the time you wake up 20 mn before your usual time.
o      For 20 mn, write down all that comes to your mind, without sorting them out.
o      Do not worry about the style, the grammar, spelling . . . . small worries, big projects . . .  accept everything
o      After 20 mn, close your note book, do not read what you wrote.
o      Breathe deeply
o      The aim is for you to let go of the life you have planned to welcome the life which is ahead of you. You may read your note book after several months to have more distance with what you put down.

Have a lovely day !

Change your driver, from time to time !

A very large majority of us live a life where giving time to time is not in the agenda.

Giving ourselves time leads us to listen to what is happening in us: what are the emotions we do carry at the moment ?

And without trying to understand them, just by welcoming them instead of ignoring, fighting or lessening them we can feel differently and open new doors;

If you give yourself time, you slow down your whole system and by the way, you will pass that pace on to the persons around you: emotions are as contagious as virus ! They also go via your body.

Do change your driver once in a while by swapping your head for your body. It will instantly reconnect the two together.

I remember someone telling me that when she was swimming, she clearly felt she had her head going through thousands of things to do and thinking: ‘I have to stop swimming for hitting all that !’

and at the same time, she was aware that her body seemed to be willing going on swimming, even faster;

She took the decision to calm her thoughts by deciding to stay swimming, knowing she would have more energy and a lifted spirit afterwards.

I find that story is very interesting: that person could realize and accept that at a precise moment she had parts of her pulling her in opposite directions. That allowed her to feel more serene and make a decision she was happy with, letting go of the unproductive stress.

She reunited her body and her mind: a powerful way to feel at our right place.

Have you ever felt this ?
