Roots of your emotions

Walking in the Surrey hills
« Anytime you feel anger, towards something outside of yourself, question it, as being angry with a mirror does not make sense. »
Golden rule
Understanding this postulate can help you know yourself better.
Though, I would decorate this concept with different words, like, for example:
Each time a feeling is provoked by an event gushes forth an emotion in you; this emotion grows from pre-existing roots of your inner system (body & mind);
You react to what already exists in you more than to what you are confronted to at the time.
Why ?

Because this emotion is the fruit of a ‘event / feeling’ couple

Your experience originates fromthe factual and emotional memory of one of your event / emotion anterior couples.
Explanation:
You encounter Event 1 E1. You develop feelings and emotions F1
If you encounter now an event E2 that your memory links with E1 (because of similarities, same persons, context ..)
You then edit F1 and, frequently unconsciously, linked with E1.
F1 is your emotional root.
F2 (feeling linked with the new event) will most probably be similar to F1 (no such thing as 100% for human being comprehension)

This rolling logic is true, whether the event / feeling couples emanate from the agreeable well or from the traumatic well.
Conséquences ?
What you understand and you feel is issued from your highly personal grid of understanding of the world around you.
In other words, You get your environment more from your individual grid of understanding than from what you are confronted with.
One idea: To understand your today, you may question your yesterday.
Feeling angry towards this person who gets on your nerves is not useful, except for creating an explosion of aggressiveness – internal or external- that will affect negatively you and the other.
Much more interesting is to let the other where they are in their own life with no judgement – what’s the point ? –
You chose your own place with the distance you wish to have
and
asking yourself: Where on earth does that aggressiveness come from in me ?
What is it linked to ?
What can I understand from it ?
I am mentioning aggressiveness, it could be anxiety ….
Anyway

Look for Love or Fear
Always.
When Bryon Katie mentions that it does not make sense, I would not say so.

I believe there is always a reason. There is a sense to it.
This concept is one key to all therapy approach.

°*°* I am not here referring to persons confronted to physical or psychological violence who, plus what is described above, implement defense processes of another nature that bring complexity (and not complication) in the equation. °*°*
Happy thinking !
:o)

Why meditation and how to give it a start

Why and how to meditate ?

To stop doing, moving, being agitated
Both mentally and physically

If you are just beginning to meditate, or not doing it regularly, you will probably find yourself in a state of lack of that constant activity of ours.

Do not think that meditation cannot be for you.

Meditation is a lifelong learning;
like probably your work can be. It does not come naturally and it is not a gift.
Like anything, some people will find it easier than others.

No need either to become a Buddhist monk to have the ‘right’ to meditate and get benefits from it.

What could the very first step be like ?

Remaining motionless and silent; time for your thoughts and your body to calm down and you start feeling what is happening in you.

When you want to get what is happening, to reach that state of mindfulness,
then you start again the reasoning process that can only lead you a little bit further away from the access of your internal mental state.

You get used to this different state of mind, directly linked to your inner self, mind and body,
differently connected to your environment.

Meditation is for everyone.

Those who mainly work via their analytical brain, those who never stop will probably benefit more from it.

And may also find less easy to accept that different way to be.

Meditation does not come in opposition to the experience of intellectual reflection.

Both are rich. They come to be essential and complementary.

When will you decide to give it a go ? !

Do contact me if you have any question !

Draw yourself a beautiful day !

What determines our level of happiness ?
                                                                            After the film ‘Happy’

I find that documentary interesting. I am giving you here some of the data you can find when viewing the film.

After studying identical twins in different places in the world, here is what frame our happiness:

Après avoir étudié des jumeaux homozygotes dans lemond, voici ce qui donne le cadre de notre Bonheur:

50% is by our genes: the genetic set point

10% by life circumstances: age-work-money-social status-health-where we live
Par les circonstances de la vie: âge-travail-argent-statut social-L’endroit où l’on vit

40% is what can make the difference. This is our intentional activities.
Peuvent faire la différence. Ce sont nos activités choisies.

Looking at those figures, it seems that the 50% of the genetic material is regarded as being a biological block impossible to change. I would not necessarily agree with that. We know now that along our life, our genetic material can change indeed. So the good news is that we can work around that part.

After interviewing many people all around the globe belonging to different social classes, here are some points that came out showing what helps build a greater happiness. Keep in mind that each of us will have a different level of need for each point as we all have a different life history (blockages or facilitations) and our body working differently.

¤ Change.  Too much routine erodes the curiosity that helps keep us awake. That can be as little as changing your route when jogging. Variety is spice of life.

¤ Move your body. The dopamine is a neurotransmitter. When it is released in your brain, you experience wellbeing; euphoria. The best and most efficient way to get dopamine is to exercise. Having physical activities is highly important for your physical health as much as for your mental health. People who do / have done a lot of sport can tell that they even get addicted to it.
¤ Bougez physiquement.

¤ Social bonding  we are social animals. We need contacts with other. The level of contact we need is different for every individual. Social bonding, social cooperation, social interaction give us rewards
v   “Being in the zone” / experiencing flow:  that is when you are doing something for no specific extrinsic reason: no money, no social recognition.... Just because it is meaningful to you. Nothing else matters then. It makes us inhibit our self-interest and feel things in a bigger scale.

v   Being together with family &/or friends. When different generations are mixed it adds to the feeling of happiness. This does not mean you get on well with all of them. Feeling you can count on them to support you if needed. A sense of belonging.  You are not left out. The pleasure to be together facilitates laughter which triggers the release of dopamine (among other substances) as well.

¤ Recognise what you have. Make real what you have instead of taking it for granted.

¤ meditation on compassion and loving kindness can increase the happiness level to a greater extend. That type of meditation has been around for more than 2500 years. They are explicitly designed to cultivate qualities like compassion and loving kindness. After experiences, we can say that when a person is doing that type of meditation, we can observe a specific activity of the brain and  the size of particular areas in the bran become thicker.

FACTS / FAITS
-          Practice happiness; it is a very clear prevention against low life phases as one happy person reacts to adversity and can come back down to base line more quickly.

-          Our nervous system only cares about differences and contrasts. Be aware when you experience one.  You will most probably feel it very clearly. No worries,iIt is normal.

-          Once you have basic needs met, more money does not seem to buy more happiness.

-          Personally I would add that more money is more likely to buy reassurance, balance individual fears. And that is a different point to deal with.

-          Hedonic adaptation is one of the main enemies of happiness. Hedonic treadmill = whatever level of wealth or material goods you have, you adapt to it and you will always want more.

-          Happy people tend to function better; they are more productive, healthier and they usually live longer.

-          Best thing to give to a child, to make them feel happy: love which equals to recognize them as a person.

The trick is to be authentically you in all those different points.

You want to be happy? Your responsibility to make the difference. And you can.
Think happiness as a skill and practice it as you would for learning something.

There is no formula for happiness and the path will be different for all of us but the things we love to do are the blocks of a happy life:

Play
Have new experiences
Get around with family and / or friends
Do things that are meaningful  to you
Recognise what you have.

An now, Go for it ! ! !
Get it to the fullest ! !

Maintenant, à vous de jouer ! ! !
Soyez gourmand-e ! ! !

let's 'see' our conscious / Stanislas Dehaene, neurologist

Barcelona !

Good day so far, I hope ?!

I do not know about you, but personally I do not watch TV and I love listening to some radio programs.

Yesterday, I was listening to  Stanislas Dehaene  on the French Radio called France Inter. He was talking about his new book  The Code of consciousness

Below are some of his comments he made:

- The brain can only process one image at a time.
- You could say that consciousness is the scientific version of the soul
- Awareness sets alight parts of the brain (seen via MRI) that synchronize and encode the same mental object at the same time.
- The non consciousness turns off these brain areas
- The brain changes state with awareness
Etc ... etc ... etc ...

Does that interests you ?

So you can listen to the interview, though it is in French

Summary of the book :

"Where do our perceptions, our feelings, our illusions and dreams come from ?

Where does the mechanical processing of information stops and where does awareness begin?

Is the human mind sufficiently clever to understand its own existence?

Will the next step be a  machine conscious of its own limitations?

For over twenty years, Stanislas Dehaene analyzes the mechanisms of human thought.

In this book, he invites the reader into his laboratory, where ingenious experiments visualize the unconscious and dismantle the biological basis of consciousness.

Thanks to brain images and even electrodes inserted deep in the cortex, we are finally beginning to understand the algorithms that make us think.

Detecting the presence of consciousness, decode what a person, a baby or even an animal thinks, getting patients out of a coma, equip machines with a beginning of consciousness ...

“The Code of consciousness” opens extraordinary practical and intellectual perspectives by providing equal importance to the technological, philosophical, personal, and ethical resolution of the last mystery.

Stanislas Dehaene is a professor at the College de France where he holds a chair of Experimental Cognitive Psychology and he is a member of the French Academy of Sciences. His work has been awarded various prizes.
He has published Les neurons de la lecture and La bosse des Maths, that were great success.

What eyes and what a smile this man has ! !
Those of curiosity, energy and happiness! At least on  the pictures!

I can only recommend you to read this book that I already have in my kindle!

Have a brilliant day !

The origin of pleasure

I LOVE that piece of art !
It can tell so much !

Museu de arte contemporânea, Rio de Janeiro

The origin of pleasure

TED conference - Paul Bloom, psychologist.

What Mr Bloom says about pleasure - pain is fundamental.

I am particularly touched by this, because it is the foundation of my work as a coach with my clients.

The key sentence for me is

YOUR BELIEF IS THE SESSENCE

Here is what I believe in ;o)

Your beliefs shape all your perceptions

AND

You can change them if you decide to !

You can - and I advise you to ! – dust off the old unwanted ones !

Time to get rid of the unwanted past layers of values you are holding in your life and keep the wanted ones !

Chose and clarify yours

Not those of your parents, your life partner ….

They can be similar from theirs- and then life will be easier if you share the main ones ! –

and they can be different !

The main point is that you are aware of them.

And then yes, you will feel pleasure and pain in a way that is congruent with whom you really are.

As your beliefs will be congruent with who you deeply are !

As 'simple ' as that !

Here is below the link for the conf.

Enjoy !

And have a fab day !

Our stomach, a 2d brain

We still have so much to discover !

Here is a link to a documentary that was on Arte, a German-French TV station

http://future.arte.tv/fr/le-ventre -anchor - item # 115111

I find this documentary interesting as it has a scientific approach which corroborates what I set up in my work, following my ' instinctive ' conviction (fine observation, readings , reflections , feelings ... )
which, in part, is to consider that

EVERYTHING that enters our body (mind and physical body): food, emotions (conscious and unconscious) affects us .

EVERYTHING.

With a non-religious but spiritual frame that I have, I consider that we are all linked with each other .
The functioning of our body which we still don’t know that much
contains in itself the possibility of self-healing.

Here are below some points from the documentary of Arte .

Here I will discuss the relationship between emotions and the functioning of our intestines.
This documentary deals with other aspects, such as the scope of therapeutic assumptions regarding earlier detection of neuro-vegetative diseases such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's.

Our intestines are composed of 100,000 billion bacteria, 200 million neurons ( = the brain of a cat / a dog).

The stomach produces roughly 20 neuro transmitters
and 95 %  of the serotonin ( hormone of " happiness ") of our body.

The serotonin circulates in the blood and will act in our brain.
Particularly in the hypothalamus which is involved in managing our emotions.
Hence the impact on our mental state.

Michael Gershon, a pioneer on this point, U.S. researcher at Columbia University , New York, wrote a book entitled " The second brain " in 1998 (already !) .
I love it when it is said to be the Leonardo Da Vinci of our intestines !

Mayan believed what we fond : the fundamental importance of our belly .

For Indian yogis, the stomach is the home of emotions

Chinese medicine has an overview of the human body and it regulates the flow of energy circulating in our body;
it considers that the Qi (pronounced shi) is a fluid energy that connects us to the universe.

Bo Zhiyun , acupuncturist in MIC Hospital Guangzhou, China , discovered
' by accident ' ( which I do not personally give great credit to) acupuncture on the belly.

He uses it almost exclusively now, having traced a network of points around the navel that said to be extremely responsive.
"Our organs are directly related to our emotions and mental state. "

What we feel impacts our digestive system.

Now we find that our digestive system impacts our emotions .

It seems that in the pathology of irritable bowel, the concern may be a miscommunication between the two brains :
head and intestine.

A doctor in Grenoble, France, treats his patients by a holistic approach and proposes
sessions of hypnotherapy .

Other approaches consist in finding a drug that can support
consistent communication between the two brains.

Needless to say I am deeply convinced that the holistic approach is a solution that meets more the inner functioning of a person (not to mention the cost ) .

We now know that an altered state of consciousness, like you can reach wit hypnosis for example, you can change the functioning of our brain, through access to the unconscious mind.
The effects of hypnosis are now proven .

This unconscious mind, discovered in antiquity and rediscovered by Sigmund Freud,
would it be in our stomach, the reporter asks ?

I would add ... is ALSO in our stomach?
I believe that our unconscious is IN us, not in one specific organ and certainly not only one.

The documentary deals with the influence of the bacterial flora.
Research show, we are told, that the causes of obesity can be divided as follows:

10% due to genetic factors
10 % due to bacteria
80% due to behavior , thus a factor 'will' ( ooohhh I am wary of this word and what it implies ) with the attached question: Is our personality under the influence of micro biota ( flora stabilisers ) ? Which would mean an even stronger bacterial influence.

I would be tempted to weight there .
The environment and life experiences have their place far from negligible in all this !

Experiments on mice show that intakes of micro biota from quiet mice calm down aggressive mice
and vice versas .

Thus a deduction that intestinal flora influences the functioning of the brain.

"What we are is not only determined by what is human.
We are influenced by our ancestors (in development ) the bacteria that arrived on earth billions of years before us.

They have acquired a much larger genetic repertoire than ours. They influence who we are and how we are. "
"We swim in an eco bacterial system .
There is no separation between the self and the outside , between self and other .
We have an extraordinary biological continuity .
We are a collection of links and information that is beyond us . "

neurosciences

Full moon, Rio de Janeiro

I am a passionate about neurosciences.

They are the future .

They tell us so much about our brain, the way it works, the way we can understand and use it even more and its endless possibilities.

A huge unknown world.

Talk of J.M. Gurret during the French EFT congress:

In 2000, Karl Kandle, an American neuropsychiatrist received the Nobel prize for his work in Neurosciences.

He demonstrated that our brain doubles the number of neuronal synapses connected with a though when we keep thinking about it.

Basically, when we have a trauma, if we talk / think and talk / think and keep talking / thinking about something, we make it stronger.

Imagine the result for a negative thought !

Imagine the result for a positive thought !

Knowing it can lead to realise what wecan change

Have a great day !
