A grieving process

Letting go with your previous references, your previous professional reality and being flexible thanks to your adaptability and, most important, discovering what you want !

What is it that you want ?

This is the most important ! Are you happy being where you are or is it tough ? You want to work ? Then do organize time slots in your agenda only for seriously working on it. You want to work ? Fine, but how ? And what exactly is it that you want to do ? What would you love doing ? Can you recall a previous professional activity, a hobby, an old dream…. ?
It is time to explore ! What flexibility do you need: amount of working time, schedules , depending on you, on your family ? Do you want to be an employee or work freelance ? Etc. …Etc…

These are a few starting points.

On the practical side of things, what is the reality you have to face: the legal reality of your host country and the local network ?

Look for information and get to know your legal possibilities, depending on your visa, sometimes your nationality and the local work market.
Contact your national buddies as well as the locals.

Those who already work can tell you what to avoid, specific difficulties and what to look for.
Ponder. What is impossible for someone may be possible for someone else.

You will gain time and efficiency, so energy and motivation: that will help you tremendously.

Migrants (except when having a work contract in the pocket before the migration) will surely get a job with a position and a salary lower than what the had at home.

Once more, your adaptability will make a difference: are you ready to begin with a bias you would never have accepted before : volunteering, much lower salary, a boss who knows less than you do … ?

How serious is your commitment ?

It may be the right time to seek professional help and benefit from a skill assessment, look for a coach. Your motivation and your commitment will be maintained at a higher level; your self-confidence boosted, that you may need as well.

In two words: flexibility and seriousness

Do not miss that opportunity to draw your professional path again, you will wonderfully benefit from it personally, socially and your family will as well.
