Work of Madame Gres (1903-1993)
The Musée Galliera, Paris, devotes an exhibition to this amasing seamstress who worked with an astonishing modernity. Her real name was Germaine Krebs; she first opens the House Alix in 1934 ... without knowing how to sew !
(An article from the French newspaper l'Express)
Here is what Madame Gres thought
"Ignorance is something very important, it has purity and innocence.
It leads you to try things that others would not dare trying. "
How right she was !
I understand her message as voluntarily giving a liberating and thus creative importance to the concept of innocence and no preconceptive ideas,
Unleashing a desire or a project of their associated images, their attached conceptions
Embracing them relieved from their tights and judgments built here and there at different times and / or by different people can literally lauch us towards the possibility of a much easier realisation
How is it possible to give a maximum potential to a project when we limit it from the begining ?
How could this woman have become a major internationally recognised fashion creator if she had followed this rule which says that without sewing you can not become a seamstress and even less a recognised one !
Her genius and her strength were first to be free of this pre conceptive ideas and I guess free from many others as well
She offered herself wild freedom to believe in her dream by only following it
Which, after all, ended quite successfully !
An image comes to me naturally: Children's balloons which, once released from their strings, can fly so high in the sky
If you have a project or a desire, let go of the strings !
