Expatriates' Wednesdays: what expatriation reveals

Swiss Chalet and palmtrees;
Welcome to Brasil !

I am sharing with you today one of my leitmotives

Expatriation doesn't create anything; it reveals and amplifies

Expatriation has no such power to create an aspect of our behavior,
or a facet of our personality;
I do not think so;

Like any new situation, it can cause a shift
The old markers get lost, reassuring habits that we no longer think about are not appropriate anymore
We  then have to invent a new way of being
Our old comfort zone is over !
Which is exactly why evolution is possible

A peculiarity of behavior that was there but unrevealed,
A fraglility or a strength that wasn't rooted to anything before,
A potential which had not developed,

Positive or negative, depending on the phase we are going through,
expatriation plays the role of a developer

We find ourselves facing a new development of ourself
Sometimes creative, sometimes destructive
With all the intermediate shades of course

The beauty of this period is to recognise and accept this new development
and to get something constructive out of it

It is not always straightforward and sometimes a helping hand can be necessary
A short and structured support can stop a downward spiral;

Now, and because I am still going through more or less easy moments in my life as an expatriate, I suggest you do not stand alone when and if suffering in your current expatriation life
Have a beautiful day !
