Our beliefs are not reality

I can not resist to share with you another extract from this book I find interesting and easy to read
"The man who wanted to be happy" by Jacques Gounelle

"(...) We greeted each other and he informed me that at this time, he could not give me much time.
Too bad.
- So did you go to the video store in Kuta ? He asked me.
- Uh ... no. I confessed miserably.
He said without a trace of reproach or authority:
- If you really want me to accompany you on your life path, it is necessary for you to do what I ask you, since you did not refuse to do it. If you just get over it and listen to me, not much will happen. Are you ready to commit to this ?
- Okay.(...)
- Tell me why you did not go to Kuta?
- Uh ... In fact, I was tired last night and I needed to rest.
With a laugh he said:
- If you lie to others, at least, do not lie to yourself.
- What ?
I was taken aback.
- What were you afraid of ?(...)
- What could you lose by going there? (...)"

Aaaahhh! How cool! ! what a feeling of freedom in the last few sentences !
Well, that is what I feel reading them !Because they are freed of any social mask, of all social norms that stop from hitting the chosen target simply and directly.
This old healer offers an immense space of freedom for being, thinking and acting.

"He said without the slightest trace of criticism or authority."
This sentence contains the important concepts of non-judgment and emotional distance that go so well together ! !
No trace of reproach in his words for the old healer has the necessary human distance. He is not involved and is not affected by the decisions made by the man.No trace of authority; he does not try to have an authority power like a father, a mother may have, or any significant religious or secular body.

The emotional distance is healthy not to be confused with the non-attention !
!

"If you just get over it and listen to me, not much will happen. Are you ready to commit to this ?"

The old healer makes the man face the responsibilities for his choices and their consequences. He treats him like a responsible adult. The o
nly way for our choices to be truly ours.

"If you lie to others, at least, do not lie to yourself. What were you afraid of ? "
Loving and respecting ourselves  is a state of mind essential to move on,respecting our own choices. This results in not lying to ourself !This notion of fear that blocks, that stops, that limits can not be ignored. What are we afraid of losing ?
(you will nothice than in saying "do not lie to yourself", the old man implies the fact that he may not be there, letting the man facing himself)
The framework set by the wise old man looks so much like a life coaching process !Life coaching is a journey that aims to achieve a goal chosen by you.Throughout this journey, you discover yourself, respect, love yourself. With no judgement and  justification.
