Shall we be wise ?

Being wise, as the Stoicists said, (ancient Greek and Roman mainstream philosophy) is

First, accept the inevitable and transform what can be

For doing so, we must know exactly what we mean by saying that something or a situation is inevitable. There aren't a lot ! !

Make a list of what you believe to be inevitable in your life;

If you have a loyal acolyte, not far from you (a loyal acolyte is a person who can tell you what they think without hurting you, even if you disagree with them !) ask them if they think that these items you have selected are, in their opinion, really inevitable. Not that they know better than you ! They can't. But it can bring you a new source of reflection that you had not considered yet

Or, ask yourself the question: what / who do I need, to change that ?

After that exercise, you've probably well cut down your list;

Actually, the elements we can play with in our lives are vastly more numerous than those on which we have no control on !

Quite a good news, isn't ?

Here is an example; consider the family unit,

Something inevitable is family relations: Being the child of. . . the brother of . . . the sister of . . .

Something we can transform : the types of relationships between us and our father, our mother, our brother or sister; as old as they are, those bonds can be transformed

A transformation requires willingness, clarity and precision of the direction in which we want to go and the steps to achieve what we have decided to go for

 

You probably won't be surprised if I say that I think the very first step should be to carry this work on your beautiful person in the first place !
